At one time Mercedes had the rather disconcerting habit of giving their factory fit [one piece] = centrebox + rear muffler exhausts a unique part no which did not correspond to any part no in the EPC . I don't recognise A 201491**** as a known exhaust part. Usually they all start A201490**** irrc. Maybe this an entire system or a remnant part of one?

It looks very much like a stainless backbox from a 16v 190E.

Ta everyone.

I know. I couldn't find it on EPC & the local dealer (Greenoaks) told me it's not an MB part. It looks like one to me. It also looks like it was a separate piece rather than part of something.

a picture showing the whole thing might help identify it?

I thought it was from a 16v but 'cos (get it?) I can't find the part # I'm seeking clarification.

The whole enchilada.

A few inches after the join the pipe coming from the centre section is flattened at the top. I've emailed the manufacturer in Germany to see if they can shed any light.

Downward sloping pipes are normally for diesels aren't they ?

Keeps the sooty mess they produce off the paintwork.

The 16v & 2.6 190Es have pointy down exhausts. Can't remember what the diesels had.

Looked back into the "mists of time" to find data on my original factory exhaust on my 1989 190E 2.0 litre which had the following part nos
centre box 2014914901
and rear box 20114914201
This re-enforces my idea that your part no is associated with a "factory fit" one piece exhaust. However the part is obviously a "part section" back box. SO---- likely scenario --Erberspacher have a batch of BACK BOXES stamped out/ welded up but not yet assembled ready for the production line-- BUT 190 production ceases--- Erberspacher then use these boxes to fabricate aftermarket replacement parts instead. They can't obviously remove the stamped nos but stick an updated paper label on instead. The flat section is pretty standard for axle clearance-- and yes the the twin downward facing pipes on the back box were found on the 2.6 cars but irrc fitted the 4 cylinder petrols also.:thumb:

ps if my notes are correct the diameter of the pipe exiting the centre silencer box is 55mm- if the socket on the rear section fits that diameter then my guees it will fit most petrol 190s

Can you measure the diameter of the bore - should help people match it up if necessary. Eg (IIRC!) 2.5-16s are a 1/4" larger than the earlier 2.3-16 systems (like I say, from memory)

Would no doubt be different to a 2.6 or whatever too.

The tailpipes are a little too short to be from a 16v model, which are slightly longer to cleat the rear skirt on the kit.

This is from my 2.3-16

6cms where the middle section joins.

If it were from a 16v, 6cm ~ 2.25 inch approx - I'd guess it more likely to be a 2.3-16 than a 2.5-16 which I think is around 2.5 inch. Can you compare it to one of yours Neil? :)

Definitely 16v IMO.

The 2.6 and late 2.0 had twin pipes, but the tip of the pipes almost finish in line with the rear most bracket.

Your pipes protrude by quite a few inches.

This is the first picture google showed up for the non cosworth twin pipes, i know it's non genuine, but demonstrates the difference.

Looks the same as Stwats to me so its from a 16V...

Eberspacher UK came back to me to say it's "from an old C Class." :dk:

Eberspacher Germany haven't answered.

Eberspacher Germany have come back with -

"Hello,

It could be a W201 190 E 2,3-16 with 125 – 130 – 136 kW"

Measuring it against the pipe currently on my 2.5-16 it is identical in diameter so I reckon that's what it's for.

Sounds much more like it-- I think you had already worked it out slightly better yourself than Erberspacher UK could :thumb:-- to fair to them the Ereberspacher UK staff as a relatively recent acquisition of the UNIPART GROUP were probably not around/born when that part was made.;)
