Hi All,

I am just in the process of purchasing a used '60 plate (beginning of 2011) 'E350 CDI BlueEfficiency Sport' and am having some difficulty determining the engine. The dealer has it advertised as being 231BHP and 0-62 of 7.2 seconds, however the reg returns an 'E350 AU B.TE CDI' with 211BHP. Anyone know what actual engine it will have in it, I am reasonably sure it said BlueEfficiency on the side but now doubt myself!

The reason I ask is it makes a ~£200 difference in insurance premium.

Thanks

Even more confusingly when I try and enter it manually (on compare the market) the only engine option which comes near the dealer description shows as 265bhp....

231hp was replaced by 265hp sometime during 2011 (I think). I've never heard of a 211hp :dk:.

What's you're source?

Thanks both, so being an early 2011 car more than likely it will be the 231bhp per the dealer?

The 211bhp BlueTec one is what the insurance companies (LV and DirectLine so far) get when entering the reg.

My W212 E350CDI was built at the end of April 2011 and was an early 265bhp car. If you look under the boot carpet on the saloon there is a sticker that identifies the engine power output in kW (not sure if it's in a similar position on the S212). The 265hp engine is 195kW, the 231hp one is 170kW. If there's an AdBlu tank instead of a spare wheel, it's a BluTEC model with 211hp (155kW).

Great answer Phil, especially the sticker info - this crops up a lot on here :thumb:.

Thanks, sounds to me like it is almost certainly the 231bhp engine then and no way to tell for sure until I pick it up - I wonder why the reg shows different.

Is there much of a difference between the 231 and 265, i.e. did I get myself a lemon?

Nothing wrong with the 231hp car, and they're usually marginally cheaper than those with the 265hp engine.

The 265hp cars also have the 7G-Tronic+ gearbox which in like for like driving yields marginally better fuel economy (1 - 2mpg) so long as you don't use the extra performance, but in normal use you wouldn't know whether you were driving a 231hp or 265hp car.
