Idle Problem!

when i start my car w202 C200 the idle rev is fine its only when i have driven a little bit and i put it in neutral or park the rev starts to climb up to 1500 and stay there, but if you turn it off and start it again it will be below 1000. any idea why this is happening?

Possibly a sticky air flow plate, its worth a gentle clean using a carb cleaner, or that the change over switch contacts have worn and they are not changing over to idle control
