Not sure but . Most expensive new cars have sophisticated anti-theft systems that incorporate a type of fob with the key. The ignition switch is simply a switch, but has electronics attached that when powered “talk” via wifi energy with the fob. If for any reason the electronics fail, or the fob is lost or damaged, it has to be re-programmed at not a cheap cost. Always insist on a spare fob because the engine immobiliser can not be over-ridden and you will then need a flat top to move the vehicle to a dealer to get it fixed. They will insist on registration and ownership details and ID before doing the work.
