This and that.
OK, so I'm burning my CD's to iTunes, with a view to sticking them on my 8gb Nano...

The tracks come up with no artist and no track name. Apparently, this is either because I'm not connected to the internet (which I am. Duh.), or because the track doesn't contain the necessary data (which is prolly the reason).

So. Is there any way to add Artist and Album data to a load of track at once? And artwork? I've got an album with sixty-nine tracks on it, and it's going to ba an almightly pain in the 4r$e to do it with [ctrl-c] and [ctrl-v]

TIA

PJ

If you are ripping real audio CDs through the iTunes software then you should be getting the CD cover image and track titles. The software connects to the Internet and sends a unique identifier for the album to an online music database and in return gets the thumbnail image of the cover, artist, track list and other information (genre etc). If these are copied albums or the tracks have been rearranged it won't work.

Assuming you have real albums you need to check your Internet connection. Either a firewall or Options settings in iTunes are refusing to let the program get the information.

For some reason it doesn't work with all CDs. I had a double album recently and it worked fine with one disc but would not recognise the other at all, no matter what I did. I think compilation CDs tend to be the worse (mine was a comp'n too).

The only think I could suggest PJ is that you delete the whole album from iTunes, shut iTunes down. Make sure your internet connection is open and restart iTunes. Allow iTunes to connect to the internet before putting your CD in and try again. Make sure iTunes is connected to the internet before putting the cd in and see if that makes a difference.

They are real CDs. I ripped four (well, 7 because one was a triple album) CDs, and 2 (4) of them had no artist, album or track data. The other 2 were fine. I don't know about artwork, because I have that in the PC already, so I didn't send iTunes to look for any.

For the triple album. I then had to copy and paste the artist 69 times, and them the album name 69 times. I now have to go through and key in the track names 69 times.

I just wondered if I could select a bunch of tracks, and just say right, all these are The Magnetic Fields and save myself all that donkey work, because this is bound to happen as I go through my CD collection, seeing as some of them are fairly old (presumably before this kind of data was stored on the disc).

PJ.

basic answer to that is yes you can do that. you select the tracks then it might be a right click function - can't remember - and don't have iTunes at work:devil: I can check for you when I get home and post the process. But you can apply common terms to a number of selected tracks - artist, album, genre etc.

Take a look around the web for itunes add ons to make lots of difficult tasks very easy. ;-)
