The CLK has clocked 175k with little problems this week. I've decided to put her on semi retirement after years of faithful service. I was in denial. But the Mrs noted that I was using her Fiat 500 more and more (twice last week!). I've decided to buy a "sales rep" car. A sort of wolf in sheep's clothing...Nothing premier. Price wise...around "just ex-fleet - diesel". I'm open to the Mondeo, Insignia, Avensis etc. But they're too common! At the same time I don't want to standout...help!

Mondeo - they've been competent since the day they were launched. There are some stylish specs around too.

I'm driving a Mundeo for work at the moment. It's a very able car. Auto is thirsty though....

I've been driving CLK 55 for a long time. I need to be weened off it slowly. I will be using it on my days off. The car has to be around 3 years old...not older! Mpg...it's a diesel!

Vauxhall Insignia.

Audi A6 avant? I really like these but as we must have an auto, the very unreliable Multitronic box means these are not on the list for my new estate.

The mondeo in upmarket Titanim X Sport trim looks great, but these are expensive.

I suppose depends what you are looking to spend .

There are those who say there is no finer car than a C Class estate . Although mine is an older C270CDI , I can vouch for that , although it is a bit of a bore coming out of the 500SEL :(

A W204 C220CDI may fit the bill though ?

I'm on my way to see a Mazda 6 Estate. They're not a premium brand and not too common...what are your thoughts? It's a 60 plate Sport version, blueish / purple...

A buddy of mine has one of these as a company car. Just coming up to 3 yrs old and has 100k+ on it. Not an ounce of trouble and his next company car (by choice) will be a Mazda 6 again.

Its diesel and goes for miles at the sniff of an oily rag. 6 speed manual box if I recall. I have been in it and had no instant - "Jeez I would never buy on of these" moments.

I looked into the new Mazda 6 estate last year. There's an internet campaign running about unreliability and poor response from Mazda and dealers. This might be old hat and now put to bed, but check carefully before you dive in.

It would certainly give you that "just a bit different" feel - good call.
