Hi, any advice on the following greatly appreciated. My 2004 R170 SLK320 will not turn over and displays "start error" on the dashboard. I have been told by the garage I have had it towed to that it requires a new IFZ control unit. They have said they may not be able to source this, which would therefore mean scrapping the car which I really really do not want to do (the unit needs to be new as it has to be coded to the rest of the car). Is there a way to bypass the immobiliser completey? I am happy to do this. Are there any other options I could try? Thanks in advance! Paul

Never heard of an IFZ unit. You may need an EIS electronic ignition switch, a good Mercedes indi should be able to help you.

The IFZ control unit in the ECU which controls the immobiliser.....also called a "drive authorization module" My wife's 1999 SLK 230 R170 had an issue with one ....luckily just before she collected it.....but that was years ago so no idea if its still available.
