Immobilser stuck on and lights flashing

Hello - I have a P reg 1996 E220 Estate and the immobiliser seems to be stuck on. When we turn key in ignition engine turns over but does not fire. The lights at the bottom of the rear view mirror flash. have tested battery and all OK, also have disconnected battery and tried to re-sync locking system but problem re_ocurrs. Any advice gratefully received or details of somebody who might be able to fix - at the moment car stuck on driveway!

Have you changed the batteries in the remote, as the flashing lights on the rear view mirror relate to them not working properly?

Nae luck - cost me over £300 parts and labour in 2004 to replace the i/r receiver in the door. That was after summoning a flat-bed in Nevers (France) where the dealer temporarily bypassed the circuit so we could get on our way. (£140)

as brian said. test the remote fob batteries. by pressing hard and seeing if the red light on the fob comes on after about 2 seconds

We know that the remote is OK,, shame that they have not come back as I have the factory re sync for him
