Importance of FMBSH

Sorry this is a bit of a newbie question

I'm in the processes of buying a '99 E320CDi with about 90K on the clock. This currently has FMBSH and is due its next service in about 1000miles which the dealer (independent) will do before delivery.

In the long term I don't expect to continue the MB servicing but I want to know if there are any important warrantees (e.g. rust) that would be invalidated by not using MB servicing and so specifically if it is worth doing at least one more MB service in case any issues come to light in the first months of ownership.

Yes, rust!! MB cover rust from the inside for 30 years from 1st reg date for your model but only renewed every 2 years if serviced at dealer.

hmm , i wouldnt be so sure about that on a '99 car. Might only be 6 years. Check the documentation that came with the car.

does anyone have a date when mobilo life started? off the top of my head it was october '99

I've been browsing the Forum for info on this issue - is it safe to assume that if the car does have FMBSH then the terms of the warranty have been fully complied with?

By the time I've got the car home and read the small print it will be a bit late to find out that it is not covered - and I don't necessarily trust the dealer to know the answer if I ask him.

It was in the back half of 1998, I forget which month. My car came with the booklet and was registered in September 1998.
