Hi all, we had a customer bring his car to us for some mechanical/service work and while it was with us he also decided to have it detailed (well he had driven from France!!!)

The car is a 280SL in rare Inca Red.

I didn't have my camera with me the day I started so no before pics unfortunately. Ther car was quite dirty from the trip so it was washed, the wheels cleaned and the engine bay detailed.

All products used are Autosmart unless stated otherwise.

Autowash
Acive XL (traffic film remover)
Alishine (wheel acid)
Highstyle (rubber trim dressing)
Finish (general purpose dressing)
Brisk low foam (for use in a wet vac)
Glass cleaner
Carnauba Gold
Megs UC
Megs 83
Claybar with Re-Glaze lube
Peek metal polish

After washing and drying the car I fully clayed the bodywork and revealed the true condition of the paint, 'Swirl City!!'

I took to the paint with my G220 and tried Megs 83 which hardly touched the defects on the hood and trunk but did correct on the sides of the car. Megs Ultimate Compound was bought into play and on some areas it needed going over twice.

Some 50/50 shots

The hood.

The seats were cleaned with a diluted TFR and soft brush. Apologies for the poor pics, still getting to grips with my new camera. the bottom half has been cleaned!

Hi Mark, nice job. Whereabouts are you based in the Midlands?

Good work mister.

Not a fan of the owners choice of steering wheel centre...

The pictures looks like they were taken at SL Shop in Redditch, Worcs.

Great detailing I bet the owner was happy with the result.

As above comment. Isn't that a bit harsh on 'period' MB-Tex?

Especially as TFR is usually a caustic based cleaner?

Hi all, thanks for the comments, sorry for not responding earlier, I've been away for a few days.

How do you get the engine bay so clean?

I generally use TFR, a wheel brush and plenty of time and patience. At least the straight 6's have a bit more space under the bonnet than the V8's!! Once cleaned and dryed I use an Autosmart dressing called 'Finish' which gives a new look to metals, plastics and rubber.

Spot on!!

Don't worry you are not alone in that opinion.

I did try an all purpose cleaner but it didn't shift all the grime (the photos didn't show very well how dirty the seats were). I used a very weak TFR mixture and that did the trick. I have found Tex to be very durable though.

Great detailing I bet the owner was happy with the result.

He did seem pleased but I think he was more daunted by the drive ahead back to France.

Thanks
Mark
