Indian Built S reg W124 E220

LOOKS TIDY ENOUGH manual gearbox unfortunately

Looks like a tidy example. Theres a blue S registration W124 on our road too must be another Indian built model then I guess.

I've seen a '52 plate W202 a couple of times (must be late registered), and '51 plate W124s quite a bit.

Was it really assembled in India? Never thought of that other the RHS C-class assembled in South Africa and most the ML and R classes assembled in Bama.

Yep.

Note the jacked up suspension to cope with Indian roads.

:D

When I was out in bangalore, you would see the odd few E Classes with mahoosive ride heights. They really need it, potholes out there can consume small cars!

The Indian made W124 were made from CKD kits, ie Completely Knocked Down kits which were sent out from Germany. Seen quite a few of them over the years.....Trade Sales in Slough sold lots of them when they were new in the late 90's/early 00's

I dont think it is from India. Why/how would one export from India to UK ?

It is one of the cancelled export cars to Asia (far east) at the time of the Asian financial crisis.

Keith, there were many hundreds brought in from India in the late 90's. I actually went to look at one at the time at Trade Sales in Slough who sold most of them, and they all had Mercedes Benz Made In India stamps on the Vin Plates.

I've also seen a couple come through auction over the years and they all have the same Vin Plates with Made in India on them.

The youngest one I've seen is a 51 plate .

Can you remember what Trade sales were selling them for at the time ?
