Read somewhere on here about someone noticing an increased performance/mpg on a 80k plus car after adding a fuel injector cleaner, has anyone else done & found the same & if so what make did you use?

1 litre of ATF just before filling the tank.
Are you saying add 1ltr of atf to the fuel tank before refilling to get the same effect iscaboy?

yes, actually a better effect than any proprietary treatment.

Any particular brand? Do Halfords sell atf??

I bought a 0.5 litre container of injector cleaner from halfords and bunged it into the tank when it was 1/4 full. A much higher concentration than they say but it worked for me.

Just go to a motor factors (halfrauds is not a motor factor) and buy the cheapest generic ATF they stock.

end of.

perhaps you should start referring to it as the Bible.

only the Priesthood of Ordained MB mechan H^H^H^ technicians are permitted to interpret the Bible.

Thats intresting! I didnt think ATF would make a good injector cleaner!! Learnt something new!!

Does it matter whether its a petrol or a deisel car?

Yes, there was an unspoken assumption that "injector" meant "diesel injector"

petrol injector opens several new tins of worms, so many different types etc etc.

I tend to think that the second anyone begins to imagine themselves as a wise man, they're actually being a fool.

Given that the OP original poster has a petrol car and hopefully he hasn't just chucked a litre of atf in his CLK convertible "petrol" tank, what are the options for petrol injectors?

A careless piece of advice when you don't know if the car is a petrol or diesel.

Not so much, I cannot imagine any scenario where it could possibly do any damage, but petrol injectors come in many flavours, and all of them are different from diesel injectors, and I have never put ATF through any of them, so cannot say that it would work.

I did however just assume that anyone talking about injector cleaner would be talking about diesel injector cleaner, due to the very high pressure and injection into the combustion chamber directly (or as near as dammit) it is faster / easier / cheaper engineering to run something through a diesel injector than pulling them and sending them off to be serviced.

It isn't safe to assume though, is it.

For a start, if you ran ATF through a petrol engine you'd coat the spark plugs with deposits of gunge.

So then you'd have to buy new spark plugs. Hardly a good idea.
