Installing dashcam

CLC200; I’m thinking of installing a dash cam front and rear. The rear is hardwired to the front unit, so can you put that wire under the headlining, and if so is it easy to remove the headlining, and more importantly, replace afterwards? Anyone done it before, or used a professional installer?

I've fitted a few dashcams to various cars (although not your model) and normally it is possible to get the wires under the headliner at the top of the windscreen relatively easily by teasing the edge of the headliner outwards with a trim tool. No need to get involved with removing the headliner. Yo can also normally go from the front to the back of the car by hiding the wiring under the door seals. They tend to be fairly straightforward to slide off and back on again. Just be aware of the position of any side or curtain airbags.

Thanks, that’s reassuring.

Make sure you get the correct one, the coupe has a different shape to the saloon/estate.

I posted some time ago and wanted advice on how to wire the dashcam. I have installed a Thinkware U1000 4k, front, and rear cameras and ran the cabling via edge of the roof lining from the rear. As mentioned above, I partially pulled the rubber seals around the doors which come off easily and feed the wire carefully tucking them inside behind the lining. I also took the positive power from the front cigarette lighter running appropriate cabling via the A pillar, however I later discovered that I could have easily tapped into the roof dome lights. For some reason the voltage at the dome lights were slightly less than 12v but the wires that feed to the cigarette light had above 12v. That confused me totally. The model I purchased has been superceded with the plus version, is think its EV friendly too? It has good features and most importantly I have no complaints regarding the reliability. It is expensive though, managed to sneek a deal during black Friday👍

That's brilliant. I had a bit of headache on mine, all the wires near the dome lights had a voltage lower than 12v, i couldn't understand that as the voltage at the cigarette terminal was a 12.5v. Never tried the rain sensor. 👍

My new dash cam as recommended by @toteimerced a couple of weeks ago arrived today. I paid £48.59 for it on eBay on 2 November. It seemed to be hanging around in China for quite a while, but its journey was reasonably quick once it left the country. I did wonder whether or not I'd have to pay customs duty when it arrived at Heathrow, but nothing. I also spent £13.79 on a 64GB micro SD card direct from Kingston that's specifically for dash cams with its high overwrite spec.

Getting everything working was a doddle. I just pulled off the existing plastic shell/cover behind the rearview mirror, unplugged the wiper supply, plugged the camera cable into its place, then plugged the wiper connector into the supplied cable socket. Downloading the app and setting everything up only took a couple of minutes. Then came the fun bit.

There's quite a bit of cabling to hide away within the confines of the shell before pressing it back into place, as well as two extra connectors. if things aren't in the right position the shell won't lock back into place. But no matter what I tried, it still wouldn't fit. When I compared the camera shell with the original, the cut out that fits around the rearview mirror post differs slightly. Time to get out a sharp knife for some careful trimming. That did the trick and everything then locked into place. Or did it? There's now a gap of a mm or so all around the shell where it (should) meet the windscreen. I need to do a bit more investigating (and cutting?) before I'm happy, but my wife needed the car. Hopefully the camera doesn't drop off while she's out.

Thanks again @toteimerced for the recommendation. The image is really good.
