I have started to do some voluntary driving for the hospital and have started to put a lot of mileage on the car (2 thousand a month) which got me thinking.

I was thinking to buy a secondhand C class (2003/2004 year) to use for patient transport and plan to keep it to very high mileage (200k) then dispose of it. This way I can keep the current car for family use.

The question of NCD arises on a secondhand car of course. Can anyone suggest the best way to insure a second car when my NCD is already tied up?

Thanks.

Re insurance - perhaps one of the companies who 'mirror' NCD on a second car ? As always , though , everyone's circumstances are different and you need to spend some time phoning around for the best deal .

On the matter of the car - a C Class might not be the best choice for transporting patients if you will carry more than one at a time - due to very limited room for rear seat passengers .

This is also why you don't tend to see them being used as taxis . An E class would be a much better choice .

As above, a multi car policy would work. You just need to ensure your policy covers you for patient transport because you may not be automatically covered on standard policies.

I agree on the point on c-class rear seat space. My fully able bodied kids found it tight and swinging legs out to get through the door behind driver's seat involves an act of contortion if the drivers anything over 5-foot in height (ok slight exaggeration). It'll be difficult for elderly or people with impaired mobility.

Edit: good on you though, what a selfless thing to do. :thumb:

hi,

re the insurance, have you thought about insuring it as a classic car ( since it is your second car). I have mine (C180, 53 plate) insured as a classic with Footman James for $300ish and this includes work related commuting etc. The only downside to it is that i have limited mileage (7.5K) but then that is due to me being a relatively new driver ( license less than 2 years old).
