Insuring a Cat N vehicle.

He could always advertise the bought back vehicle and add more £ to his fund, he will always get more for it than he paid insurance to buy it back especially if damage not to bad as in a quick fix which Cat N normally are.

I feel I have to add my tenpeneth to this discussion as I have nothing but contempt for most car insurance companies, present one not included which is awesome and fair. A couple of years ago I was rear-ended while stationery at red traffic lights by someone behind not paying attention. First accident in 32 years of car driving. On my renewal I was told it had gone up quite a bit because although a non-fault, I had made a claim against the Car Insurance 'Industry' so should therefore be penalised. At the same time they all of a sudden became interested, for the first time in the LPG system fitted to my Rangie which for the first time became a penalty and to top it off decided that the mirror chrome wrap on my wife's Cooper S should also be looked at more closely despite its super shiny surface stopping at least 4 pull-out-of-a-junction-with-little-care accidents. As its a legal requirement, thank god, to have car insurance, profits should be pegged to 0.5% per year and a legal requirement for insurance companies to provide it. They should also allow you to use a reputable garage to repair it and not insist on the substantially overpriced ones they insist on.

It's your choice where your car is repaired.

As above.

If you are claiming off the other party's policy, you can have the car repaired at any garage that you choose - the insurer has no say.

If you are claiming off your own policy, then you can still choose the garage, but some policies have an additional excess clause for repairing the car in a garage that isn't part of the insurer's own network.

Additionally, some insurers will provide a guarantee for the repair if carried-out at their own network, but if you repair the car at the garage of your choice then the insurer will simply pay for the repair but won't get involved if you are unhappy with the result.

Being a couple of years ago, i can't remember the problems using my own choice were but in the end i gave up and used their choice. I wanted to use my Land Rover specialist who would have done a better job for half the price, paint on the damaged bumper is now flaking off!! so a total waste of £1,200 for the insurance industry.
