Having just moved forward technology wise I noticed in my settings that I can turn IL on and off. Not sure what this package actually is, however, I notice my headlights swivel round corners and the high beam magically switches on and off. I read somewhere that the IL system adjusts to the road condition? Surely not on a Dec 2010 model E350CDi?
Any experts care to enlighten me!!!
Thanks

It recognises oncoming vehicles and dims the high beam automatically.

I find it slow to react and doesn’t always detect tail lights.

I have it on my 2010 E500. Rather good isn't it...:)

It’s a brilliant system. I was just watching a YouTube vid on it and apart from changing h/l beam and swivelling it was constantly adjusting the low beam and creating a dark area behind the car in front.
I drive a lot at night on unlit A roads so really looking forward to trying it on a long journey.

I have ILS but have only just used it for real in deepest darkest Ayrshire over last week and I thinks its brilliant. :D

It took me a while to get used to the Blue High Beam Light being illuminated at times when following a car in front and realising that the driver wasn't being blinded, the only small complaint would be the fact that it takes a second to register that a car is approaching, but it doesn't appear to be dazzling them either. :)

Never had it before, but I'm now converted! :D

I had it in my 2012 e class and it was good. The system on our 2016 SLC and 2017 e43 is progressively better. In the latest system it doesn’t just really quick switch off the lights from main to dipped as another car approaches but keeps the lights on and switches it off around the approaching car - spooky to watch!

I love it, the only downside I've discovered is on a motorway sometimes it doesn't always dip when traffic approaches if there's a central metal barrier

Best option I had specified on my car - think it's great....

Agree ils is fantastic, the main reason I bought the car that I did.

Got to use mine for the first time on Friday, thought it was superb, initially i found it a little slow to react, but you soon get used to it

With the winter nights now longer, I've had more time to use the LED system on my 2016 GLE.
Seems to work very well and I have been able to leave it on hi beam for hours of night time driving without ever getting flashed. (...sorry if you didn't have time to get to flasher stalk..)
I agree it is not as quick as you 'could' be to switch to or from dip, but as others have said you get used to it quickly enough.
The actual illumination is at least on par with the best bi-xenon lamps I have driven behind, but I'm not sure that the LED's are the quantum leap the the over xenons as the xenons were over halogen.
Overall, it makes night driving more relaxing, offers good illumination in all conditions and automatically goes to main beam once out of street lighting...provided you are not following or approaching other vehicles.

I think it's spooky the way my new W213 LED headlights black out the area of an approaching car while on high beam. I feel guilty about not dipping the lights, but it seems to work very well. Damn clever.

9 months in and I STILL haven't been anywhere dark enough to actually use ILS. Maybe before year end........

I definitely haven’t got the later type ILS then as my high beam reverts to low beam whenever it detects other car lights, however, it’s a massive step forward compared to manually dipping the milky xenons on my old Merc.

I can't for the life of me think why anyone would operate the off setting

First time I used it the winter before last, when the "black box" blanked out the car in front, I thought I was going blind.

I have the LED version on my car and they are stunning - It uses the satnav to know where you are e.g. will splay the lights outward at a roundabout (lights up both sides), knows when I'm on a country road and shines the high beam further - It will also refocus the high beam when behind a car on a dark road and will sometimes keep high beam even with oncoming traffic but also refocus and is also speed dependent etc etc ........ Never been flashed by an oncoming car.

I live in a rural village so get to enjoy my lights a lot at this time of year....

Just driven 100 miles down the M6 and the ILS on my W212 makes night driving a joy. The extended low beam seems to be as good as the high beam on other cars I’ve owned.

I spec'd multibeam LEDs on my S213 (E-Class estate) and it's one of the options I'm most looking forward to. My commute is 20 miles of country B-roads.

Shame it's arriving just as the clocks go forward :p.

You will have to pop out for milk at 2am daily then!!! Hopefully my next car will have the LED version. Mine is only the xenon version.
