As it was looking to be dry today, I decided to replace my IC pump, so when the weather gets better I can use the car without the risk of damaging the engine or bodywork, nothing more worrying than pulling out and floor it and zilch power.

Did have a bit of a crises as there are two pumps there, managed to trace the pipework.

When all finished and tidied up, it was still dry I took it for a drive, last Sunday on a drive into Cornwall, intake air temperature would rise to 80 deg C without much problem, today I drove around town to get engine bay temp right up, on a couple of good hard blasts it stayed under 40 deg C, I thought it was quick before, but kin hell it made my eyes water.
I am loving this beast :bannana::bannana::bannana:

LSD :D

Think mine needs a new pump as well, after a few hard runs I would get no power until I give it a little break.

hello mate I think that's a definite sign for a new pump.

Sent from my iPhone using MBClub UK

Yup definitely, but it will be loosing you heaps of power way before it cuts out.
Swap it out - it'll feel like a different car.

Have a read of my cooling thread, post 1 shows what happens to your IAT's the graph shows not a duff pump as you can see some recovery with it but its taking useable power away from you.

The pumps are cheap enough to change out.

Good read.so I need the mods or just the pump?cost of said pump? Installation?

well only if your pump is not working or its not efficient, £200 ish depending on what pump you replace it with and who does the work.

Well I think it's working, how efficient I don't know.

Data logging, or aggressive on off the throttle if a saxo then overtakes you laughing and you feel like you have only 200 horses under the bonnet your pumps dodgy.

It is a very common fault.

Ok can star pick this up ?as for saxos lol!

Only if you recreate the conditions above i think, but indie or dealer will tell you if the pumps dead.

Trust me if you do the agressive throttle run and its a dead pump you will know quick enough.

Cheers mate car is under surgery as it happens tomorrow will ask my guy then.thanks for your advice and quick replies atb col.

I tested my old pump after I removed it and it ran, did not pump any water with it to see if it is pumping and at what rate, I had already bought the other pump so wasn't going to swap back if it didn't make any difference, I picked up the temp rise though using this V1.5 Super Mini ELM327 OBD2 OBD-II Bluetooth CAN-BUS Auto Diagnostic Tool New UK | eBay
and my smart phone.

I use an ELM bluetooth dongle for the OBD2 port and Torque app for android which is pretty good, cost less than £20 to set up and gives lots of live data.

Its a very good investment for data trends and fault codes.
