Just installed IE7, as advised by Microsoft. Anyone else done the same, and any comments about it....Any good/worse?

Thank you Mr Chap. I will give the other thread a read. I have never used Firefox, so I cannot comment. I find the 'tabbing' annoying, but maybe I just need to get used to it first before I wind it back with system restore. I have noticed that although the text/pictures displayed are bigger, but the sharpness/quality is not as good. Am I doing something wrong??Thanks for you comments.

Same here - think it's great:rock:

explorer 7

whenever i start mine it always goes to the microsoft run once page thingy and then it says that there is an error with thescripts or something and do I want to continue running scripts?
Anyone help with this please?

Ie 7

Installed this about a month ago. Great!
Microsoft should have brought this out long before now. I personally have this and Firefox installed with different home pages for easy access to my two favourite sites.
Along with an ebay toolbar I don't have to keep going back to the desktop.

Splang - sounds like the install/update didn't complete properly. The "runonce" is for a microsoft page used to set IE7 options.

You can uninstall from add/remove programs and then try again.

Best to have antivirus and antispyware progs stopped during the install as they may block some of the changes....

Try uninstalling IE7 and then re-installing.

Have you tried Firefox? They also have an excellent alternative to Outlook Express in their Thunderbird.

I agree!

Just installed it this morning, it's changed my text style very very slightly , the font is more rounded and easier to read ....

Seems good so far ...

You have to configure IE7 to display fonts optimally on your screen (it's a bit like being at the Optician: "is this sharper .. or this?"! If you didn't, you've missed part of the install. Home page etc. is retained by the upgrade.

The tabbed pages are great IMO, you can save sets in folders and open the whole lot in one go.

Only problem I've had is an occasional crash when closing IE7 with the 'open the same tabs next time' option checked - no big deal.

Oh , no , i like the new font .....

I have been using Internet 7 for a while now. Like most new things.... It's different and takes a bit of getting used to.

Like most folks I think it is an improvement.

Good luck,
John

The font improvement seen is because IE7 uses Cleartype as standard via the runonce screen.

To make the rest of Windows do the same:

Right click desktop & select properties
Click appearance tab
Click effects
Change the second box to cleartype

Result is much clearer on most screens.....

Also you can set multiple home pages so everytime you launch or click Home you get a tab for each of them.

There's a setting "Always use ClearType for HTML" (or something similar) in Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced. Turn it off to go back to the old days of razor-sharp text.

Does anybody seriously think text looks better on a CRT monitor with this turned on? (Jury's still out on LCDs, which is what ClearType is optimised for.)

Dont like it - yet that is.
Its already broken two pieces of software I use at work.

Also not keen on buttons I use being on opposite edges of the page with no way of moving them next to each other.

i'm getting a few more script errors than i used to.

:(
