Itch for something discrete

Why what?

Why did I post the comment?

On the Passat world forum, there are posts about failed torque converters, followed by whole transmission replacements at low mileages. With a special order transmission.

Nothing posted about manuals.

No why are autos more unreliable than manuals? Bear in mind most of these would be auto so more reports may not mean more unreliability...

I understand VAG autos can prove a bit troublesome once they've circa 150k, but I must say I'd prefer an auto on a W8. While looking at sleepers as it were, have you considered a Rover 75 V8? As has already been stated, a 211 E500 would be rather nice.

Heres a few pics of my discrete looking Clio "Q" car

The car was used for strip use only but was road legal. Its started life as a 1.2 Clio Grande but was stripped to a bare shell and fitted with an extensively modified Audi 1.8T AGU ( big port head version ) running a IHI VF34 blower, jabba sport manifold, bosch 440 injectors, walbro fuel pump, HKS intercooler, Quaiffe LSD, DTA engine management. 82.5 mm JE forged pistons, 1900cc overbore, Integrated engineering rods + digimax progressive controller and 100 shot of gas.

The car was running at 401 bhp without gas. I had a phone call from the guy mapping the car one day and he was slightly amused ( wayne - chipwizards Rochdale ) at the fact he had just done nearly 200 mph ( check RR report ) in a Renault Clio on the rollers. The car itself ran mid 11's with Mickey Thompsons + launch control. On the road it was pretty much untouchable. A whole list of super exotica was shut down like you wouldnt believe. The car weighed in at 860 kg. The external part of the car was totally 100% standard ( including steel wheels )

^ Thats cool in an odd way...

What would be the actual top speed on a real run way rather than a rolling road. Also the tyres don't look very wide for the power / lack of grip.

ooh and FWD / torque steer must me mental?

Love to to the look on peoples faces in the supercars...bet they don't tell their mates about that.

Here's my problem. I think to myself "go spend a couple of thousand on a V8", so I see something, but then I see the same model a couple of years newer and only £4k, then I think, hmmm for that money, it puts me in the ball park for a different car, only £6k, and then I think if you're going to spend £6k on that, you might as well spend £8k on this.

Before I know it, i've convinced myself that what I really should have been looking at all along was a Ferrari Dino, a really good investment?

And, then reality bites. Too expensive, but if I'm not going to do it properly, then don't do it at all, right?

So. I do nothing. Or, maybe not this time.

:bannana: (apologies for the banana. My 2 year old made me do it)

I keep doing the same thing myself! (here's another banana for your two year old :bannana:)

I had 160 mph at Elvington air field but it felt very unsafe so i slowed down. I never built it for top end speed, it was just used for 1/4 mile runs at the strip. The speed will be higher on the rollers yes, due to the fact its stationery and theres no Air lag at the front of the car slowing it down.

The road tyres were Michelin Exalto 2's 205/45/16's and for the strip Mickey T's were fitted. Torque steer wasnt that bad believe it or not. Due to the nature of the car i never really ploughed it into bends that hard ( as stated it was built for straight line use ) so the torque steer didnt bother me to much.

The look of the owners faces as there factory built supercars were put to shame was priceless.
