Has anyone used either K&N or Piper Cross Air filters in an AMG? What was your experience?

Piper cross ones in my my previous e55 just fell apart not long after fitting, I just stick to a Oe quality brand

Thanks for the feedback Gav. :)

I have run K&N on many motorcycles while living in a dusty land in my youth. I fitted them to my C55 when I bought it and pretty much forgot about them, I had a look 25K miles ago and they were still there, gave them a clean and re oil and I will let them do their stuff for a while before I look at them again. Here in the UK dust/sand is not an issue in most engines and unless you are going for performance High Flow with all the associated tuning that might be involved to make any difference.

Stick with Mann or whatever MB sell for an easy life.

Out of interest, what brands have mercedes been known to chuck in from factory? Or do they have their own rebranded stuff?
I did try looking it up for my CLA but i just get ads for every brand going

You can’t go wrong with MANN

Good to know, need to start looking out for tips like this having not been in MB ownership long, cheers

I inherited K&Ns in my E55 and I left them there for a long time.

Switched back to paper a while after modifying and I couldn't tell any difference.

On the 113k engine there is hardly any difference in performance. Without going back through my old threads, I think the conclusion was that the original paper filters (OEM are Hengst I think, but possibly also Mann, either way they are almost identical, plus there is another brand as good but can’t remember the name), were the best when brand new but deteriorate more quickly than K&N which flow more consistently for longer. So either way you can’t go wrong. Fit Paper and change annually to ensure they are doing their job, fit K&N and clean when required (but the bonus of a one off cost).

The ones for sale on ECP (crossland) for 80p are well worth a go. I bought a load of Mann or Hengst filters for my old CLS55 in a similar offer from ECP for around £2 a few years ago so changed them every 6 months.

I’m pretty certain I also tried some Pipercross filters and the rubber frame started to separate from the foam filter after only a few weeks. I may still have them in the garage some where so will check.

Jules.

Hi,
I use BMC Filters in my CLS55, and my Audi Cab, no issues other than cleaning, which I carry out every other service.
I had K&Ns in my own C43 AMG and C230K again no issues at all apart from cleaning every once in a while.
I personally prefer the BMCs but only because apparently they are OEM for some car manufacturers, Ferrari being one of them.
Never noticed any performance in the V8s or the Audi but the C230K I felt it improved the fuel consumption slightly and "seemed" to pull harder.
