key for old A-class

Yesterday, at used car dealer place, I've tried old A-class but found something very confusing:
when tried to start the car, key was not moving smoothly, but quite hard like something is obstructed in a way... evenmore, salesman said that it is like that on all A (on my w202 key goes very smoothly).
Key is flip-type. Is it true that old A-class doesn't have new type of key (triangular)
Engine is 170CDI, auto. Made in 2001, with 115000km on clock priced 8500€ Sensible or not??

They often are stiff but normally its nothing to worry about.

I have that model & wouldn't say the key is any stiffer than in any other car.

Yes they have the flip type keys with a separate plug to disable the alarm/imobiliser in the glove box in an emergency. If you have the full set of keys there will be two flip type (blade and IR 2 button), one red plug and one black plug. Like the rest of the MB keys they are not programmable and you'll need to buy replacements through MB.

Thanks for answers.
As I tried another A-class and founding that key is going normally, one mentioned in first post is out of my mind.

Slightly offtopic, my wife said that she dont approve buying an A, so I have to search for C-class, w203 shape for similar price

Get what YOU want. Stuff the wife. LOL.

The C-class is a better car all round though.
