I was due to pick up my C200 Komp on wed, after the initial test drive struggled to get the key out (checked it was in P etc) the young lad who brought the car round for me also struggled with it,as did the mrs ( we have a similar key in the c240) The salesman did however manage it ok and it was just a matter of getting the 'knack'. The spare key they have needed recoding and I insisted I want two working keys before I pay. Heres where it gets a bit complicated, yesterday (thurs) get a call saying the key cant get coded and they need to order a new one, however merc will only do one to the person on the log book therefore will I finalise the deal take the car with one key(which i thinks sticks a bit) once the log book comes back with my name on, go about getting the spare done and they will pay for it..they said they would put it in writing on the invoice and I do believe they will. Me and the mrs are a bit fed up with it all now to be honest, any input would be appreciated. Im buying from Evans halshaw and in all honesty they have been pretty good at keeping me in the loop.
Excuse my grammar, hope that makes sense.

Ensure when you pay that you take £200 off the final price - this is the cost of a new key!

I take it you didn't but from an MB specialist then? Recoding the key, my butt....

Current price is £229 Thats for key and blade inc VAT pre 20%. At least thats what MB charged me.

Nope. It is their problem not yours.

You need to think about the hassle factor and time off work involved in getting paperwork, going to dealership, waiting for key/ coding, etc. What if you get problems starting the car in the meantime? what if a new key doesnt solve the problem? What if the current key gets stuck in and you cant remove it - will insurance pay up if the car is stolen when it sits outside your house with key in place?

Get them to sort it out and call you when it is ready to collect with two working keys. Otherwise look elsewhere - there are plenty of nice examples for sale out there.

Thanks for the guidance peps, picked up the car and got them to knock the price of the key off. Ive been out in it a few times now and basically you sometimes have to press the brake which releases the key,I wasnt aware of this safety feature......lovin the car though and so far I have been very happy with Evans Halshaw (took out the 3yrs service with them too 12.99 a month, thought that was quite reasonable too)
