Key will not turn...

...in the ignition. Steering lock will not release.

Put the key in the slot I get two small clicks...then nothing.

Car battery flat?

If not then either your EIS or key are dead and need replacement.

Sometimes temperature change can get it going, either stick the key in the fridge or use a hair dryer on the EIS. We had the issue on a W210 and only heat could make it work but on the W211 we have it was the opposite, cooling it worked.

Could be a failing key , I had the same problem with me 220 , a new key sorted it and only cost 140 euro

Solved.

Many thanks to everyone...it was the ESL.

I was able to remove the EIS and gave this to my indie with the key. They both worked.

So, it was the ESL...I cut it off and removed the pawl. My indie then lent me an ESL Emulator and I'm back on the road again.

Of course, now I don't have a steering lock...but I'm not concerned about that.

I've ordered an emulator online...for £32.
