Heading down to the Lake District tomorrow for a day away.

Any suggestions as to where is the best place to head for and also a nice place to have some lunch would be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

My friend swear by Keswick , he goes there all the time , either way have a great day away

Leave your wife at home take the bird and give her a good rogering. Great day out.

Made a loose plan to head for the Bank Ground Farm (looks great !!!) for some lunch then on to either Windermere or Keswick afterwards.

Quite fancy visiting the Ruskin Museum in Coniston for the Bluebird exhibit.

Agreed...Coniston. :thumb:

Only one thing missing from the perfect day out....... Curry :bannana:

In Windermere, just before the end of the one way heading towards the lake, opposite the off licence, on the first floor (up the fire escape), is the one I used to go to when I had the boat. Basic, cheap, but pretty tasty.

I'll be home in time to cook better than almost anywhere retail outwith the Yadgar .... :thumb:

I have witnesses to that ;)

When we visited a few years back , there was a nice curry house near the bottom of the main road in Bowness , more or less across the road from the Beatrix Potter centre , on the first floor .

Honister Slate Mine also a good visit , and the drive up the pass worthwhile .

Steam boats on Windermere a good experience , combined with steam railway at the bottom , but you need more than a day to do everything . Good walk down the opposite side of Windermere too .

Sounds like the place I was thinking of .

Well, now back after a lovely day away.

297 miles @ 49.6 mpg

We started off visiting Keswick and it is a delightful town. Spent time wandering around in the sunshine and had lovely cod and chips.

Off to Windermere and, feeling that Keswick was nicer, we went to Bowness.

Took a boat trip on the Northern side of the lake, had some ice cream and meandered around.

Never made it to Coniston but that is certainly pencilled in for a future trip.

So much to see and do in the area and we are considering booking up for a few nights away.

Thanks for the suggestions !!!!
