W205 C200 estate
Out yesterday looking to replace the 06 C220 Estate. Test drove a 6 month old Jag X type diesel. Good price and well-spec'ed but... it was small inside and when we got back to the dealer there was a strange oily smell from the front.

Then went to MB Milton Keynes. Her indoors had been adamant that we didn't need another Merc - they are more expensive than we need and so on. But after the Jag she was beginning to talk about how spacious well-built and comfortable the C class is...

When we got there, right in front of the showroom was a line of pre-registered W211 E220 Avantgarde auto estates with delivery mileage for £25,850 each. So, after a test drive I signed up for the black one [all the others were silver] and I pick it up next week.

Now a day later I'm heading for buyers-remorse and of course the new E estates are due shortly. Have I done the right thing?

What would've been the list price - I assume you got a discount?

Add to that the fact that opinions on the new E are very mixed ..... it will take time for people to warm to it and I suspect you would be looking at £30k for the new model?

Lucky you. Is that an MB dealer in Milton Keynes or Head Office? Can you give me a link please?

My E220cdi Avantgarde, auto, estate had a list price with modest extras of £39,000 so you did really well. The extras were automatic, metallic, parktronic, leather, telephone pre-wiring, memory seats and folding mirrors.

Worry not! I'm sure you'll be very pleased with the car!:D
I have had two 211 estates over the past few years and they are hard to fault. Enough room for almost anything and anyone, quiet, classy, frugal, clever and reasonably timeless.
Having the last of the series is no bad thing. It's much more likley to be fully de-bugged than newer cars unless you simlpy must have the very latest.
The 220 represents the 'best buy' in the line up with the recent changes to the 4 cyl diesel and if you got it at a bargain price, it should keep you happy for years.
If you were to have 'Re-Morse' wouldn't that mean a Jaguar Mk2?;)

Its automatic and metallic and it has folding mirrors. No parktronic, memory seats or leather though - its a cloth/artico mixture. It doesn't have telephone pre-wiring as such, but its got the latest Audio 20 to which you can connect your phone via bluetooth.

I am buying it from Mercedes-Benz of Milton Keynes which is part of the Sytner group. http://www.mercedes-benzofmiltonkeynes.co.uk/

You won't look back! Similarly I swapped my 06 C180k for an 08 E220cdi and have been delighted with it 1yr and 14k miles later.

You got a good deal on price, I paid roughly the same for a 3k miles example 1yr ago although it did have full leather and parktronic.

As for the telephone pre-wire, I don't see the need, mine has it but I didn't buy a cradle as the bluetooth connection is great and does everything you need it to. Genuine MB or generic parking sensors can be retro-fitted anyway if you really wanted them.

Enjoy!

Thanks. A great value deal IMO.

I went back into the dealers yesterday to sign some paperwork and the unsold silver pre-registered S211s on the forecourt all had stickers advertising 2 Years Free servicing on their windscreens. I asked about this and was told that I'd signed up for mine too soon but if I bought the gap insurance they'd let me into the servicing deal.

I declined. And, after a "chat with the manager" they threw in the free service anyway. It won't save me an enormous amount but its definitely helping with my buyer's remorse.

I've found MB Milton Keynes to be pretty good too. Their parts department especially so. Sytner are not the best for quality of service usually (particularly BMW at High Wycombe..), but MB MK seem to be better than average. Great deal, well done! :)
