Is there a way to programme Comand (NTG 4 I believe) to accept Lat/Long co-ordinates?

Some of the destinations we have planned in Italy warn specifically about using postcode for route dest and give L/L as a preference.

Can't see how to do this on the machine and the manual says nowt on the subject.

This may not be available on all flavours of COMAND, but for the ones that do support it:

In Navigation mode, select Destination, then select "Using geo-coordinates".

You can now enter Lat/Lon in degrees, minutes and seconds (I believe that the COMAND system uses the WGS84 coordinates).

You can then either navigate to that destination, save it to an Address Book entry or as a Personal POI.

Thanks. Had to look up WGS84. Now off to the chemist for some pills. My brain hurts. :D

I often use Lat / Long coordinates to get around - particularly in Ireland. It's time they agreed on a standard to use.

In all honesty, most automotive navigation devices either use only the WGS84 coordinate system, or default to using WGS84 if you leave the manufacturer settings alone.

I only mentioned it because sometimes people quote GPS Coordinates using one of the other datums and you need to be aware of it otherwise you can end up in a field instead of where you wanted to be!

I'm often looking for a field.... It's the decimal vs deg m sec that annoy me. Especially in Ireland as I'm usually in a hire car with the wrong system in my notes....

Ah... so it's more about the units than the datum. If you have an iPhone there's a great free app called Converter+ that will allow you to convert decimal to dms & vice versa :thumb:

I love standards, there are so many from which to choose.
