For some reason I’m contemplating changing cars are quite fancy a late model CLK cabrio. This will mean getting a car significantly older, slower and with way less tech than I currently have but the idea is still swirling round in my head.

I only do around 5k miles per year and would look for a low mileage, FMBSH, 1 maybe 2 owner car, the unicorn car everyone wants.

Not sure whether I just need to give my head a shake or in reality it may actually work.

In sport / AMG trim I still think they are one of the best looking MBs made.

I had a 2009 280CLK convertible.
Tax can be high on the 280 and 350 (plus the 500 obvs)
the mpg won't be.....
V6 or. V8. or 4 cylinder?

A Smart top unit for the roof is worth a look, and a replacement OE look Android HU with Android auto, even a reversing car will give you the update you may miss.

Couple of years ago we wanted a 4 seater convertible, so sold my wife's SLK350 and my C43/55 and bought a 2005 CLK55.
Great car and still looks fresh.

I’d probably wouldn’t start a search looking for a 4 cyl model to be honest. If the tax is less than £500+ per year it would be a saving anyway, man maths at its best there!

Are their any engine weak points with a car if that vintage or anything else which commonly needs looking at?

I went from a S204 63 to a CLK 280 Convertible, apart from missing the power the tech I missed as well so went to a much newer E400 Convertible.

Would or wouldn’t for the 4 cylinder engine ? Yes tax is late £300‘s . But Google M271 engine to read more about camshaft chain/sprocket issues .
All models have a risk of rear subframe cracking/corrosion .
The 6 cylinder engines in the region of 2007 (+or- 1 year?) have an expensive crankshaft failure issue ? There is a list of affected engine numbers on the web .
Pre 2006 cars have the SBC braking system ?? , the module can time out after a certain number of presses and can be an expensive fix .
I’ve had this little baby for 10 years . CLK200 Kompressor engine

Oh, if we're showing them off in Silver....

Later V6 engines should be fine, but the tax was a little over £300 (about twice as much..!:()
