Good evening, all. I need a leather dye to re-colour the leather on a steering wheel from anthracite (black, really) to a fairly pale grey. Obviously, it needs to be pretty durable. Can anybody recommend a supplier of such a product?

Try Woolies if they are still in business, they used to have a stand at NEC on classic car show.

I think you have to send a sample of your leather to give them a colour match but if you are changing the colour they will supply to meet your needs

Gliptone scuffmaster. Even on a steering wheel it holds up really well. They mix to your colour.

You might need to do some prep work for a colour change, they are v.helpful if you call them.

I just rang Gliptone; they have ceased trading. AAAARghhh!

Woolies can't help with a complete colour change, and they say their stuff is not recommended for steering wheels in any event.

Oh, sorry they cannot help e55bof, wheeler dealers did an episode where they changed the colour of the leather seats so it must be possible, I will try and find the programme for you and post on here if I find it.

Disappointed in woolies!

You’d need to do a forum search but I’m sure I saw a thread on here where a German (?) supplier had the correct paint for the various interior colour codes to completely refinish the leather.

Might have been the stuff Bruce Millar used on his 124 interior? :)

I use COLOURLOCK products bought on Amazon.

The dye is durable BUT you must user sanding paper on the treated area first to ensure good key, otherwise it will peel off.

I am very happy with their products though they are a bit on the pricey side.

Darn. Their products were brilliant. :(

Furniture clinic is the only place I can think of.

Would it give a better result to have the wheel re-covered in the colour of your choice?

Well it’s not quite a colour change, but saw this last week.

Don’t think I’d be brave enough to try it lol

I think the idea of these kits is to refinish the leather in the same way as it is when new - coloured leather is just painted with a coating after all :)

Wheeler dealers episode where he changed colour was BMW Z1, changed colour from bright yellow to a black though.

Might be worth watching it on u tube or wheeler dealers site and see if you can spot the company in the clip or even if they are named in the credits

Oops! The company name is Nuera Products Ltd.
