Does anyone know what the best product would be to clean leather seats/door panels etc and then a product which conditions/protects them?
Thanks

Modern automotive leathers are sealed with polyurethane so are impervious to conditioners. That is unless you have some of the "upgraded" finishes offered by MB.
A simple test will show if conditioners are worthwhile on your leathers. Place a small drop of water on a horizontal section of leather and observe if it darkens the surface and slowly disappears or just sits as a drop. If the former you have naked leather and should use a good proprietary cleaner and conditioner. If the later, just a damp cloth will suffice.

I would recommend Gliptone cleaner and conditioner if you like the smell of new leather. Or Buffalo if you prefer the "old leather" smell. Megs and Autoglym also do good leather cleaning/conditioning products but tend to smell of lemon or some such. You need to try for yourself ;)

My car is a 2004 CL65 so not sure if the leather would be an upgraded finish or not. Thanks for the advice

can the polyurethane top coat be replaced mine has started to shed its top coat as a result of uv damage i think?
if so any ideas where i can get it done in the Kent area?

Tony.

Yes it can be repaired. Liquid Leather (the people who make Gliptone) do kits for just this.

Zymol leather treat gives that new leather smell too.

The above photo is the drivers seat in the 420. yes i am not that enthusiastic about cleaning!! This was after the first clean, did it twice more with autoglym leather cleaner. I then started treating the seats with the leather care cream. Over the course of 3 weeks its changed from grey hard leather like the elephant hide in old Land Rovers to the correct mushroom leather. It feels much softer and smells like a Bentley.

I am now getting quite into this cleaning/detailing thing.

I recommend 2 makes. Auto Glym leather cleaner and conditioner, or Zaino leather twins (cleaner and conditioner)

Both products are very easy and simple to use. I spray the cleaner on first, gently agitate with a leather cleaning brush and wipe off with a micro fibre. Now, with Auto Glym conditioner, apply with a micro fibre and buff off after you have done the whole car.

With Zaino, spray on the leather and wipe with a micro fibre pad and leave to absorb. quick, simple and brings out the leather smell :p

Just bought Gliptone twins to try...

Say for example car is 18 months old and done less than 20k better just to wipe down or does cleaning and conditioning add to longevity?

Don't want to damage top coat which seals the leather...

Coated leather won't benefit from using Gliptone, won't damage it either though. Such new leather just needs a regular wipe down. I might even be tempted to us MB's leather products

I have always used Autoglym products and found the leather clear or the interior cleaner was good for getting the light grey seats in my CLK back to clean.

If its sealed leather i used some washing powder detergent mixed with some warm water and you wouldn't believe how much dirt came off. Perhaps i shouldnt have used something so fierce, T.

I have Stargard which is Supagard rebranded and it seems to do a good job on the C63 leather. Autoglym also good, previous experience, and Gliptone seems to be very regarded but I have no experience of it.

I've tried loads on my leather but the best by far is Autoglym leather cleaner, you can actually see the difference & i keep my car clean.

Auto glym very good for softening leather. Use it on my bike leathers too and their so soft now and supple.
