Hi,

Has anyone upgraded thier c-class W205 headunit to an android screen if so which headunit would you recommend and how would you go about installing
it, does it need coding? is it something you could yourself etc? any help greatly appreciated.

Main reason for the upgrade is the ability to watch TV, Netflix etc (parked up of course :)) and for it to be touchscreen instead of messing about with the wheel, all whilst keeping
the same functionality of the exisitng unit, such as controlling LED lights, 360 camera view etc.

Thanks.

Devils Advocate, as it will be expensive if even possible, is to just keep an iPad or similar in the car and Bluetooth it for audio
Tether to your phone and "Robert is your relative".....

You mean something like this?

From memory, a few people here fitted it to their W204, I'm sure that will also be W205 owners here who did this conversion.

Being interested in only the wider screen and not the promised enhancements - is there any wide screen upgrade product on the market that acually works "plug-and-play" without having to
rewire the entire interface with new cables? Mine is a M/Y 2016 - NTG 5...

The Android 10.25" screens are actually made to fit 'on top' of COMAND NTG5*2 (which is what you car has). It's a 'pass through' system.

So yes you'll need to follow the installation instructions and replace the old screen with the new screen, but the new screen actually contains the Android system within so the old COMAND unit is still there and you can choose which one to use.

Another alternative is to add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to COMAND, but this again requires expert installation (or skilled DIY).

If you're t thinking of something that just plugs into the USB port... then the closest thing is probably a holder for a mobile phone or tablet.

Naah. I am no fan of Apple products (or their infrastructure). I have my music library
on a USB-stick in the compartment between the front seats. I just want the wide screen...

But: the kits I have seen also contains a bunch of cables. The question is if all theese are needed.
The car I have already have navigation installed.

The short answer then is that the built-in COMAND infotainment system will only work with the original factory-fitted screen - I.e. there's no option for 'just' a wider screen.

Again, the wider 10.25" screens that you have seen all come with a built-in Android infotainment system, hence the additional wiring.

But if you did fit one of those, then you would be able to use either the Android system or the COMAND system with the wider screen.
