Lovely W123 Estate

Nice, but the plate is far from unique, being standard issue in July 1985.

Lovely, shame the w123 estate just doesn't look good IMO.

If I had to have an estate it would be a w123 but compared to the coupe or saloon the estate just looks like the one they produced to satisfy a demand.

But, surely, there was no demand. The market was sown up by the Volvo 245/265 and (maybe) Peugeot 504 estate. This was their first estate.

unique?

All plate are...or should be.

Isn't that just a cheap irish plate or if you live in ireland just a standard issue plate?

It's, as I said, the standard issue UK plate fitted to Co Antrim cars in July 1985.

But anyway...not valuable in any sense of the word.:doh:

Well, it is valuable in the sense that it has a resale value. Speedyreg are offering three "GXI + four digit" plates for between £200 and £900 at the moment. That's not to say they sell them for that, but they clearly think it's worth trying.

A mate of mine bought a Citroën BX some years ago and got the plate GXI 9500 thrown in for free. Last I heard it was on offer with Reg Transfers for not far short of £1000. There is a demand out there (though perhaps not in NI).

Nor, according to A210AMG, in GB either.

I love the W123 estate, although the coupe really keeps growing on me - I think it was that one-off AMG one we discussed a few months back that started it. That one looks particularly nice.

There is a 280TE not far away from me I pass from time to time - a couple of low light rather shaky photos, but I think it is an absolute beauty.

That's the one that lives in Bramham Gardens, isn't it? If so, I've admired it myself on a few occasions.

I see this one quite often too:

Indeed. Normally parked close to the Mauritian ambassador's spot, and not far from your turquoise Nissan Bentley, or whatever it was.

I once had CAZ 6580 and was contacted via the dealer by a guy wanting to buy the plate because his daughter Catherine, aka CAZ was born 6/5/1980. He never followed it up in the end. Think about her every May now.

Lovely car, but I hate it when people try and inflate the cost of the vehicle by inferring that a standard plate is "valuable" - if it's that valuable, take it off & sell it yourself.

I got a fantastic Irish reg for just £50 plus fees; it's valuable to me & the missus because it's our initials & birth years but it's worthless to anyone else unless the same conditions apply.

loved mine, same colour etc, regret getting rid, best merc i ever owned.
