C250 CDi Sport (W204) - Manual
Just a quick question, as I could find nothing in the user manual.

Does the C250CDi Sport (59 plate) give any warnings when the outside temperature is low? (i.e. ice warnings).

Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't think any MB model has an "ice warning"

In fact in the current C class owner's handbook it simply says

"Outside temperature display

The outside temperature display is in the multifunction display.

Risk of accident
At temperatures just above freezing point, the street may be icy, especially in wooded areas or on bridges. If you do not adapt your driving style to the conditions, the vehicle could skid. For this reason, adapt your driving style and speed to the weather conditions.

Changes in the outside temperature are displayed after a short delay."

Common sense dictates that any temperature below +4c may be icy etc.

My VW Bora use to 'bing' constantly at me when it hit +4c on the display! Very annoying after a while, glad that MB's don't have this!!

No. It is handy tho , my bmw chimes and the dash screen turns yellow and the idrive screen displays a wee outdoor temp +3 ice warning message

I had something in my Mondeo, orange snowflake came on when it was below 5C and a red one when it was below 0C. To be honest,I think I'm fine without it,I look at the at the road before I drive and then when I get in I take a look at the temp. Even if the roads look fine,if the temp is below 8C I take it a little cautiously.

Thanks for the replies, puts my mind at rest that I am not missing something.

Agree it would be annoying if it 'binged' at you all of the time, but it is handy when you are driving in falling temperatures.

I think it would be a useful feature ... I love some of the superior answers on here though ....

When I would find it useful - the other day the temp dropped from 6 deg C to -1 deg c in the space of half a mile. I only noticed because it caught the corner of my eye....

The warning like we had on a Volvo was discrete enough, but the driver easily misses that.

At my place we drive a lot at temperatures around zero Celsius and I can assure you that a temperature warning beep would quickly become very annoying.

It also does not always become slippery when ambient temperature reaches zero, if the car gives a warning at some fixed temperature, the car may be driven another 50 miles before the road actually becomes slippery and the warning tone has been forgotten. It is the driver really who would have learn to identify when the roads become slippery, the car would never be able to estimate it accurately enough and if it cannot do it properly, then better not to do it at all (some simple drivers would learn to count on the car giving the warning).

Our C-MAX beeps every time the temperature drops below 4°C and again below 0°C, both times putting up a "LOW OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE" warning on the dash display that I have to clear if I want to read the normal data it shows.

On a hilly road this can be very annoying, as in certain weather conditions it ends up beeping on every downhill...

My S211 doesn't have any low temperature warning, and because of the pesky UK mode, I can't have temperature and nav instructions / fuel economy / audio details in the cluster at the same time.

In my MINI the display will warn when at the start of the journey the temperature is at or below 3C by displaying a snowflake symbol. If the temperature drops to 3c whilst driving it will also chime to denote a falling temperature situation. This is the only time it will chime and so I do not have to listen to it all the time.

The ice situation will of course vary according to the type of road and its gritting situation and the time of day. You can expect ice to be more likely for a given displayed temperature in the morning as air temperature increases before ground temperature. The opposite is true in the evening.
