Well, day off from work, me the mrs and wee one head into manchester for some shopping.

On the way back, a clown in a black passat pulls along the outside of us but two cars in front and indicates left when he can only go right.... cuts a lorry up and zooms in. We stroll in behind but remain in our lane and in the outside lane which turns onto the M602 opposite the Grosvener. We move off when green and this clown cuts me up completely, nearly making me crash into an oncoming car and as such I beep. The car stops in the middle of the road, I move inside and he does to, winds his window down looks out and then waves a foot long spanner at me asking me to pull over....

My wife was with me and natuarally asked me to decline *politley reminding me that my daughter was in the car too.

So I bit my lip and moved in slowly... but he was still giving it some and the mrs asked me to ignore him...

Naturally... I am PISSED. No way would I have stood for this if I was on my own and the gimp in the passat which looked like a company car was nothing more than a jupmed up ***** in a suit, reg began with MW05... and was black.

Wife told me to phone the police up, which I did but they told me what do you want us to do? WTF.... even after complaining that some loon is driving around armed with a foot long spanner threatning people was not enough to cause some concern?

The plod are a joke, its the second time now I have been involved in something like this and they show no interest. As the police officer said last time, "it is your word against his" The police in the UK are just concerned with catching speeding motorists and the life, enforcing silly laws when they should be out doing what the police should do which is protecting the public from idiots but are too obssessed to give a hoot about clowns driving up and down our roads looking for trouble.

Just had to let of some steam..

I'm glad that your alright mate. Situations like that you got to think about your family which you did, yourself and then protecting your pride and joy from an attack. Every b@stard out there now carries something...

Police are a "big joke" I know and don't want to do anything.

Well done for walking away from it.

I had a similar experience about a year ago, but with a slightly different outcome...

I too called the police - especially as the other party was still sitting on my bumper on a dual carriageway and we were coming into a series of roundabout on the outskirts of town. The police controller stayed on the phone....two guys got out of the car at the roundabout and started screaming all kinds of abuse (which the controller could hear via the hands-free). A traffic car arrived and the morons legged it back to the car where the driver hurtled off. Traffic cops checked that I was OK, and took my details to pursue the complaint (which i was only too happy to do).

When I started off again, said morons were up against the car at the next roundabout, with two traffic cars having blocked them at the exit.

Could have just been lucky - near town, early afternoon, etc - but the police did not treat it as a joke and took very swift action.

Just another, different experience........

Remember..... most mobiles now have the ability to record video.....

But using a mobile to record video/take pics while driving could land you in some trouble too. Obviously if there is a passenger in the car with you they could do the honours.

I think if you thought you saw a gun you would have got a better reaction ;) from the Police. In the heat of the moment he waves something metal at you - could have been a gun - right?

I know of someone stopped by an Armed Repsonse Unit - a member of the public reported his vehicle being seen with someone brandishing 'what looked like a gun'. Not a nice position to be in but it's good to know that it was followed up...

You're lucky he didn't do anything, I have to admit I do get really worked up by stuff like this, my missus is normally a calming influence.

Unfortunately, the Police in my area are useless. I once saw a "would be" thief brandish a knife by pulling it out from his sock when he was on his mountain bike few months ago. I called the Police and whilst he was still within my view and not aware what I was doing, the “muppet” on the other end was asking me silly questions "how do you know if it was a knife" and was not interested or would believe me and just took my details down and said we'll send a patrol car later on when not busy... I was on the phone for about 5 mins trying to convince the operator to despatch a patrol unit with the knifeman still within my view the whole time and if they had listened he would have been apprehended.

There was a shooting few weeks back and normal patrol Police were not dispatched to the scene and instead a armed response unit attended the scene 40 minutes later after the "gunman" left the scene and the victim was driven to hospital in car!!!

I do so love it when people jump out of their cars to come and have a go...

I'm still in my nice solid car, you're a soft squidy organic lump on foot...wonder who's going to win in a collision? :D

Proof positive that rational thought has been thrown to the four winds at this point...
