Hi all,

Got a facelift S212 E350 and need some help finding the correct tool to undo the E10 torx bolts for the PCV.
There isn't enough room in there for a socket and I don't think a ratcheting spanner would have enough room to turn.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Small 3/8 socket with a wobble joint looks like it should go......

My E socket set is 3/8" connection. The E10 fitted fine. It was a year or two since I replaced mine. I can't remember if, once the bolts were cracked off, I then used a 1/4" ratchet and whatever the corresponding 6 sided socket was to fully undo, as this would provide more room.

But I definitely didn't have a struggle with getting the correct socket set on there. Maybe if the E torx sockets are 1/2" space might be an issue?

What size torx sockets do you have? 1/2" or smaller connector?

Thanks for the info.
I think the socket is 1/2" or 3/8"; I'll check

Didn't think of getting a smaller socket, I'll look into that.

I know this example I'm linking to is 3/8" available from Halfords, and I just use it as an example:

But most of my sockets sets have purposefully been purchased with six-sided sockets with rounded corners (as opposed to 12 sided, usually without rounded corners).
These 6 sided sockets also fit on the torx heads pretty well, although not as securely as a torx head!
So, once the torx head socket has loosened off the torx bolt, you can move to a 1/4" six sided socket of appropriate mm dimension. Probably an 8mm or something, easily found with trial and error.
Sorry if this sounds obvious, but there was a time when I started DIY spannering with my dad's really old (Halfords) socket set (which is still going strong), but that only has 12-sided sockets and I didn't realise you could get six sided, and stripped a few bolt heads off well-siezed bolts as a result.

Even with a 1/4" socket drive and using a 5/16 socket there wasn't enough room.
But I think an E10 ratcheting spanner would work for the bolt that is towards the centre of the engine.
The outermost E10 is recessed meaning the E10 ratcheting spanner wouldn't work.
