Mad auto wipers

I really don't like the auto wipers on my W209. Generally they run one notch higher than I want. ie if I am on single speed and want intermittent they will often stay single - sometimes actually increase to double speed.

Somebody earlier suggested cleaning the windscreen and checking wiper blades. Cleaning the screen did help.....for the first few miles, then it was back to over zealous mode. The blades are in good condition.

Can anybody with a clever Star machine reprogramme wipers? I'd rather have an old fashioned intermittent than the current setup.

I have the same problem, twice a year!

In my case the blades are screwed, the last me around 25k miles.

I know when they are due to be replaced when the screen is kind of smeared and the wipers go to fast a lot when I don't expect it.

Try a new pair, they don't seem to last as long as you'd expect.

If still not working as required, then would be worth visit to garage with STAR to have the auto wipe re-calibrated/normalised...

That was my question- can STARs do this?

Both the CLS and CLK do this, they have a mind of their own. The Dartford crossing Dart-Tag sensors alwasy set them off.

I've had my w209 for 2 years now and that is the only thing that really annoys me about the car. I tried genuine MB wipers but made no difference. I tried disconnecting the sensor behind the mirror which then defaults it to standard intermittent which is much better - but then the auto lights don't work and there is a malfunction.

If you get a fix, please let us all know what it is..

I'd be happy if the man with the STAR could just "disable" it to intermittent, but leave lights working/no faults showing. Have you asked about this?

I'll report back when I learn anything, but its a while till service is due.
