Does the MAF have any function other than putting the car into get you home mode, ruining fuel consumption, stopping the gearbox from working and just generally screwing things up? If so why can't Mercedes make one that works? I suppose if they did we would have half as much to talk about.

Just tried pricing a new MAF unit locally here in the Algarve for my W208 CLK230K Cab.

MB wanted: Euro €384.84 (£290.29) (MB Part: 000 094 09 48)
Bosch wanted: Euro €311.00 (£234.59) Bosch Part: 0 280 217 114

Finally ordered via eBay UK (shipped from Germany): Euro €207.47 (£156.50)
New Bosch item, 2 years warranty etc.
Above eBay price includes shipping within EU.

Why such a big difference on maf prices?......I bought one a few months ago for my ML270CDI from a MB main agent (in the UK), it cost £67!......part number MA611 094 00 48

Its made by pierburg and its for a diesel so ist cheap.

The petrol types are made by either Bosch or Hella and are much more expensive.

Just blame the green people. it his supposed o help emmisions by delivering the exact amount of fuel needed at the right time, so cutting on waste and rich/ lean mixtures

Good question - Why such a difference in MAF prices at all?

The MAF (quoted in my earlier post) is exactly the same item, made by the same manufacturer, yet locally there is a price difference of around £135 between MB Faro and the cheapest Bosch quote I could find online in Germany.
Equally I discovered that Bosch (Faro, Portugal) were having a laugh, but then they do have a habit down here of seeing an RRP and sticking to it. Then they wonder why they are not making the sales.

When I left the local Bosch shop I let them know, in no uncertain terms, that I was going to order the item from Bosch in Germany instead because it would be €100 cheaper to me, including delivery next week. The local Bosch shop were going to have to order the item from Lisbon anyway!
