MAF is actually 2 parts - the insert (secured by the torx screws) and the plastic case.

Hard to be sure, but it looks like you have found a non-OEM part that supplies a copy of the plastic case housing with the standard Bosch insert?

The insert is the only part that is active is measuring the airflow but the case could affect the airflow directed over the insert (if that makes sense!).

Assuming its genuine Bosch, you could always take the insert from the new part and use it in the old case...

Cheaper-than-dealer routes for OEM are Ebay, KMS, Eurocarparts or your local Bosch outlet.

Are you sure you need a new one?

of the 2 numbers which one is the casing and which the "mafm, maf, mas", number,,

dont need one at the moment, just that it seems a lot of people have them fail and i'd like to have a spare one handy, they're only £50.00,,

The 000 number is the Merc number thet gets the whole thing. The other number is the Bosch number for (usually) just the insert.

Its a "hot film mass air flow sensor" - hence the varied abbreviations...

I would check KMS (Birmingham or London) and Bosch to see how much an OEM one is - KMS usually c. 50% of Merc price and Bosch sometimes lower still. The Bosch outlets often "fall for" a typed up letter-header quote request by fax and offer trade discounts..usually 20-30% off their list.

If you want a Trade Letter Head then let me know.
