Do you remember this ad? I remember there used to be this commercial on TV that sold MB on the basis of reliability. The ad's subject was recalling the road he used to live on some 20/30 years ago, the point being that there was one house he distinctly remembered as a boy with a red Merc (E?) in the driveway. Upon returning, the Merc (surprise) was still there... testament to its durability.
Anyway, point being there was a time when MB was durable. But, today? If you look at the JD Power or Top Gear survey of surveys, MB's reliability rating is attrocious...

MB finishes 32nd out of 35, with 4 out of the top 5 marques being Japanese.

MB E Class manages to finish only just above Alfa Romeo 156 (!) in ranking.
In the overall manufacturer league table, MB finishes behind... wait for it... Vauxhall

MB finishes 10th, behind Daewoo!
* So what's the point here?
Not much, just a rant... feel free to join in...
Well apart from the ultra luxury brands (SL/CL), it appears that MB has lost its status as being ultra-reliable, with Asian manufacturers (perhaps through a constant focus on lean manufacturing techniques & Kaizen) setting the standard. Do we agree?
Unfortunately, Asian non-sports cars are pretty pig ugly by comparison...
