Built pc 5 or 6 yrs ago and can't find the original invoice for the components so I can't be sure of the exact spec of the RAM.
I have 2 pairs of 2 slots on the mother board and the mother board can handle up to 8gb total.
I've run a system scan on crucial.com and it advises I have 2 x 2gb DDR PC2-6400.
Motherboard manual says the slots are 240 pin DDR2 DIMM and says for best results memory cards should be identical.
So I can add another 2 x 2gb.
Crucial offers 4 options:-

1) Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2 DDR2-800 UDIMM
CT2417134 - DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 • £51.59
2) Crucial 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2-666 UDIMM
CT818851 - DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 • £41.99
3) Crucial 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2-800 UDIMM
CT818847 - DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 • £41.99
4) Crucial 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2-1066 UDIMM
CT818862 - DDR2 PC2-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-1066 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 • £52.79

My leaning is towards the 3rd option being closest to what I've got - but what do I know:dk:

Advice please

edit - just run a different system scan - says slots 1 & 2 have this:-

Seems I could get memory a lot cheaper on e-bay for less - but is it any good?

Stick with Crucial they'll do the job perfectly with whatever they've recommended after a scan, I went with them in my old PC when I upgraded that

Alternatively I could bin the original 2 x 2gb and go with 2 x 4gb???

Only if your system can run with it, after the scan Crucial will usually give you the right choices for what it can handle

just edited original post - still the same advice?

still option 3.

Your motherboard can only handle a maximum 8GB.
you already have 4GB - add the additional 4GB split over the two slots for an even balance and memory channels.
