Hi folks my cars booked in to get some rust sorted. Regvardy are saying i cant get a hire car off them i even offered to pay for a crapy little fiesta but they refused. Surely if its getting waranty work done and its not my fault its rusted merc should supply me a replacement simliar to mine or at the very least a car .. as i need it to get to and from work

Any help appreciated

Where is the rust? I notice signature mentions a W203 so can't be very old at all!!

Do you have Mobilolife? If you have (ie FMBSH) then you should have a courtesy car thrown in when in for repairs - or at least that is what I understood to be the case. Worth checking.

its a c220 on a 52 plate fmsh apart from the last one done at a merc specialist vat reg garage they told me it would be ok .. its booked in and approved by merc but these reg vardy people said no hire car sorry i asked twice now and there is no way in hell i am paying for a hire car for 5 days out my own pocket.. any got merc HQ email address? or telephone number?
rust is on the back window near the roof and where window meets its bubbled up and i only noticed it by chance one day when the sun was shining on it

cheers

You do if it's Mobilo but your car doesn't have it because you had the last service done elsewhere.

Not true, mine hasn't had a MB service for 3.5 yrs and is still getting bodywork warranty and a replacement car. albeit a Smart, the bodyshop should supply the car, it's part of the contract they have with DCUK

Yes every time, even without full MBSH, one small point here, before taking your car in for any warranty assessment write to DCUK first, with a polite letter, they will write to your local dealer, so expect first class service.

MB are doing it under 'goodwill' (or at least so they don't risk losing a sales of goods act court case). Mobilo runs out as soon as the car misses a dealer service.

Had a letter from my dealer last week (Robinsons Norwich) saying that under Mobilo Life protection they would without charge rescue my car from any breakdown/accident and provide an equivalent car (presumably not an AMG) while getting it fixed.

Perhaps dealers now do the same for a rust claim, or is yours - dare I say the word - a 'goodwill' claim and not made under Mobilo?

I can't see why one would pay for a roadside rescue service when MB offers this free provided you get the car serviced by them every two years.

Assuming one can change a wheel in the rain, that is:)

I had a C class diesel, a VW Polo, and a Ford Fiesta for my 3 corrosion fixes in that order. Though they do say in the small print of Mobilolife 'where available'
Difficult thing for me is I'm an auto driver, the C Class was auto, but the Polo and Fiesta were manual and after 13 years of driving an auto it can be pretty tricky meshing those gears manually particulary on a hill. *crunch* - sometimes I forget to dip the clutch :D

When I took my W203 into MB Ashford to look at the rust coming through (on a rear cross-member in front of the diff), they told me that the car was only coverred if it was main dealer serviced within 2 years. It has been 2 years 4 months since that happened, but they took photo's and MBUK agreed to do the repair under mobilo as "goodwill" the car is booked in for a weeks work and a courtesy car is included. :bannana:

I've had no problem getting my W210 repaired (including courtesy car - Clio...) despite have a specialist service a couple of times (bought it from a specialist). That's a good thing because the front wings have had to be replaced (5 years old...) as well as the usual door tops and boot handle area. The Merc troubleshooter told me that he suspected that they'd been using the wrong tool at the SA production line and were scraping through the paint.

This is the first and last time i buy a MB. The customer service is crap ..

update on this problem

The car was booked in for Nov 6th Monday however all this week ive been trying to sortout a hirecar while its in getting the work done.. I emailed Merc HQ and got a call last monday morning they rang my local body shop. Body shop called me stright away and offer me a loan car (ford fiesta) ! but tell me i had to insure it.. dont think they were happy that i contacted merc direct .. when i thought it was all going fine i get a call fri saying merc have rejected the claim and think my car has been re-sprayed  and i had to bring the car back in for another paint depth check which i did.. and now i await the results..
these guys at the bodyshop dont have a clue about their job..one of them told me on the phone that the factory paint depth shouldnt be more than 120 then the guy who was checking my car told me it should only be between 70 - 90 which is aload of cr@p

I know my car hasnt been resprayed and i also had it checked with my mates paint depth checker and we both are 110% the car is original factory paint

could someone tell me what i should do if they come back and tell me they cant do the work.

Insist that MB (DCUK) take a look at it.

Apparently (and I was told this by the DCUK troubleshooter) you are far more likely to get a claim accepted and done correctly if the dealership has its own paint shop. He said there are often troubles where they sub-contract because the body shops don't like all the paperwork they have to fill. I have to say that the Inverness dealership body shop have been superb and even offered to sort a friend's car if he wanted to come up for a week's holiday. They renewed the front wings without even telling me and did so partially because, if they repair it, they are responsible for the repair for a year. MB have told their dealerships that they mustn't look for rust but only fix that which is pointed out to them by the customer.

I'm with you delb0y, no more DCUK products for me - my Mercs have been crap but superb compared with my Smart Roadster-Coupe which was total rubbish. I'm back with Alfa Romeo because, if I'm going to get crap quality and even worse customer service, I might as well enjoy driving the cars. Just trying to decide what to replace my wife's W210 with...

deja -vu

Ask your dealer politely why a car less than 3 years old ?? would require a partial upper body respray in the first place. Who is to say that MB themselves haven't repaired it somewhere down the line, as a part of a predelivery check or a rust repair for a previous owner.

Thanks guys for all the input .. i will insist on Merc checking the car.. The dealer who im having trouble with are Reg Vardy Proven Road, Glasgow..
Does anyone here know where else i can take the car?

Thanks

The body shop at John R Weir did mine without issue - my branch is in Inverness but there's a branch at Perth (bit closer to you!) which I'm sure has a/the body shop.

I'm pleased to read this post - I also have a W203 , and don't consider the state of some of the paintwork to be acceptable - the car has been looked after , and is a 53 with FMBSH up till now . Other issues have been the SRS light coming on for apparently no reason though STAR says there is "high resistance" on the ignition circuit of the drivers door airbag .
I made a bit of a protest to MB about it , and a nice lady did progress this for me , however the local Main Dealer in Watford thought they were doing me a favour by offering to re-do the diagnostics test for £108 ! I did not take up their offer , but after due consideration of this , I think I formal written complaint to MB with some photos might be the way forward .
I did get told that unless the car had full history , that I could expect nothing out of MB , and for the life of me I can't see the connection between the sump and the paintwork , but there is always an old jobsworth who likes to put the mockers on things .
Does anyone have the Postal address for MB , or better , the email address for the claims dept ? Many thanks !!

edit- silly me , found the contact details !!!
