Merc Waranty Corrsion

When mine hase been in (several times) for tin rot repair, I have had to use of the bodyshops loan cars, a bit on the tight side getting into Polo 1.1 diesel after a 2.8 W210, and last time it was all over a bank holiday. But paintwork is brill. Main drawback is the 80 mile round trip to get to our nearest MB approved bodyshop.

My car is currently in for Mobilo warranty work. I have a brand new (c.600 miles) C200 CDi Sport from the bodyshop; very pleased with that, it's a cracking car.

If repairs invalidate the corrosion warranty/goodwill, then I wonder what happens if repairs have been done at an MB approved bodyshop?

This has already been discussed, you probably just get one year warranty from the bodyshop after a repair.

Cheers Shude. Hadn't realised.

Although I hoped for more, in reality that's probably what I might have expected.

One would hope though that if similar repairs were required in areas that have and have not already been repaired - then MB would do the decent thing and pick up the tab on it all.

Shame though. Let's just hope areas already repaired don't go bad!!

But if they can't get it right in a factory, can we really expect bodyshops to get it right?!?!

Yes, - DCUK don't have it in black and white, but you would expect a repair to last at least a year from any bodyshop.

Though the (non MB) bodyshops I've used in the past offered a 3 year guarantee. Even Ford do  http://www.holiways.co.uk/ford-approved-accident-repair/ Ford don't mention corrosion repairs which might be treated differently to an accident repair - a scenerio that probably doesn't arise with a new Ford

Thats great on a 99 car! What are they doing for you? I tried to claim once on a 99 CLK and they fobbed me off saying the rust was caused by a stonechip... I argued but in the end it wasnt worth the hassle...

1. O/S Top of A-pillar
2. O/S Front wheel arch
3. O/S Rear wheel arch (incl. black skirt)
4. O/S Door (bottom)
5. N/S Front wheel arch
6. N/S Rear wheel arch (incl. black skirt)
7. N/S side indicator lamp

Don't know if it helps, but I've had it from new, it was bought from the same dealer, have a FMBSH and I have it serviced by a dealer within the same group. Sadly, it's not the first time it's been back and I dare say it won't be the last.

Have to say thought that the C200 I have drives so much better than mine, even if it is considerably lacking in power. Hopefully, IBW will be sorting that out for me shortly :)

Right folks.. Update on this problem.. managed to get car in to reg vardy 2 weeks ago. I go to pick the car up today car started first time then second time it wouldnt start it wouldnt even tick over. The guys at the garage were very unhelpful which wasnt a surprise to me.. I had the AA bump start me and car is now sitting at a local indie !

I spoke to a mate of mine and he told me that i should have left the car there as it was working 100% when it was left with them. It was only in for a respray

Any help would be appreicated

The paintshop apparently gets paid peanuts for M-B warranty work and probably they hate getting rust work as much as you the customer. If you had an ongoing relationship with the service side I suppose you might have got them to look at it but if I guess right the car was not a regular visitor to that place. Having said that, it would be a friendly gesture on their part to give a hand. Which is a reason to find a good dealership and stick to it like glue. I've never regretted changing from the previous to my current dealership. As a plus, they have a VW/Audi franchise so are looking after the Golf too. And I mean looking after me the customer as much as the car, which is really the point.

Thanks for everyones input on this really appreciated folks.

Got the car back from the dealer today it wasnt starting cos of the wire was broken at the sam unit underneath the front fuse box they fixed the wire and re-set computer total cost was an hours labour £88 odd

I will still be chasing the contractors tho seems to me someone has been in the fuse box as the car was fine when i drove it into the body shop a whole 2weeks ago! Also the paint job looks crap which i will give a week or two to settle and see if it looks any better and check the paint thickness

If your not satisfied with the paint finish complain NOW!!!! Or perhaps yesterday.

Every day that you leave it, is an extra day that the paint gets exposed to road dirt, grit etc. The bodyshop can simply blame anything and everything apart from themselves. Mind you, I'm a fussy devil.

It doesnt look that bad but i need a way of testing it to ensure its the proper thickness someone on the forum sugested using fluorescent light to test it also. Could someone explain what im looking for when using this light and where to get the fluorescent light or torch? will a fluorescent
keyring light do the job?

If your worried about future warranty claims, then providing this repair was carried out via an authorised Mercedes-Benz agent through the correct procedures, then I would not worry about 'over thick' paintwork. A number of members like to make outrageous claims about only one repair, or claim for paintwork. I say :p :p :p to them.:) :) Just make sure your happy with the quality of the work.

Good luck,
John
