Alright, Chaps and Chapettes!
So, weeks of faffing around and I came to the conclusion that other radio I bought was knackered so I've sent it back and I've bought another one. This time, it works when you plug in the thing in the car.
Anyway, one chap here (forgot his name) has already solved this with a degree of success. He recommended filing the original cassette down to size but that'd take ages... I invested in a dremmel rotary tool and it made short work of it.
Its a little bit wonky but nothing a felt pad and gorilla glue won't fix.
The only thing left is the actual fascia panel that has a stupid cross bar splitting the 1din stereo and CD changer. A quick snip (I'll grind it out with the dremmel [emoji41]) and it'll be good to go. This is going to look smashing!
This seems to be a very specific issue with the facelift version of my car.
I'm hoping by posting this, people searching "2din upgrade Mercedes A160 W168 2002" will have some questions answered, it seems to me you can't just buy an adapter or anything that'll make the job easy. I mean, it's not difficult, just a bit fiddly cutting out the section wide enough for the thing. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Now, I just need a new project for my car [emoji23]
Still no idea where that handbrake switch goes... Anyone?
