Hi there, help needed.

When I put key in ignition and turn to second position before cranking all the lights on the dash flash intermittently? Car always starts. I've managed to film the problem on my phone. The car has actually stopped completely while doing 30mpg, all lights on dash disappear, no breaks, just came to a complete stop, but does restart.

While driving this happens once or twice a month. But ignition 2nd position before starting issue now getting more frequent

Mercedes dealer checked over and no fault found, and nothing registered with diagnostic. They suggested new ignition switch and recoding at a cost of £800 but they can't guarantee fixing issue..

Any advice or direction what be very appreciated.

Many moons ago we had an Audi A6 that had a very similar issue. Driving along as normal then all the dash instruments went to zero and the radio stopped working. No indicators and the aircon shut down, yet the car continued running. Lights and wipers were OK but most ancillaries wouldn't work. The dealer fitted a new ECU (under warranty) and as they couldn't replicate the fault they pronounced it fixed and handed the car back.

Next time it happened we stopped with the fault, but kept the engine running and called the RAC. It took their mechanic ten minutes to find a loose earthing connection that was a result of the mobile phone installer not properly tightening a bolt!

We found it happened after a bump in the road and sometimes cured itself after another bump...

I will call break down next time it happens I think, problem is it will probably start first time without an errors or nothing on diagnistic? thanks for your help. Much appreciated....
