Hi Folks,

I have just purchased a E280 2009 V6 Diesel and have been having some issues with Low boost code 2359 - 1.

I changed the air filters that were some of the worst I have ever seen, surprised the car ran. After servicing I took the car for a run and when giving it some revs to go up a hill a sound like a mechanical hiss developed and the car went into limp mode.

Could changing the blocked filters have altered some engine component?

The noise sounds like it is coming from the left hand side near the air filter but I just can’t find the leak. I took the inter cooler hoses off to check them and changed the turbo rubbers, fitted a resistor to the swirl flaps. The actuator seems to work and there are no other codes on the Icarsoft reader.

I can turn the eml off but as soon as I drive it starts dumping boost.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shortly after I bought my W211 E280 cdi Sports Estate, I had major problem of low boost.
It was cured by replacement of the turbo.
Replacement came from Essex Turbos.
I found them a very helpful company to deal with.

Thanks, hopefully it is not the turbo but it does sound rotational. The low boost code is gone, perhaps from fitting the resistor to the swirl flap motor. It is like playing whack a mole!

Whenever I change the air filters, I'm always horrified by the amount of rubbish that there is in the filters.
These engines draw in a large quantity of air.
I suppose I should be happy that the filters are doing their job.
I tend to change them every 10,000 miles, which I think is rather less than the recommended mileage.

As bad as this?

Could the air flow change alter anything, from not enough flow to correct amount?

Yes ... As bad as that.
That's pretty typical of what I find after 10,000 miles.
I understand that you're supposed to tell the ECU that you've changed the filters using "STAR".
I never do, and I never have any problems.
I never notice any difference in engine performance after the filter change.

Thanks, that is good to know, I was shocked at the state of the filter. I appreciate the advice.

Issue solved.

The intake temperature sensor ( A6511530028 ) had become disconnected, allowing the boost pressure to escape and making the noise.

Had it diagnosed and smoke tested at local garage, they replaced the sensor.

Previous to this I thought the intake temperature sensor was part of the MAF / “ batwing “.

Ooo Noooo....shame you have sorted it :). I was just about to say, put old air filters back in.... just to prove the point hahhaha...

Glad it wasn't expensive, only anointing issue.

Ha ha, yea I was tempted, it is the the go to the last thing you touched approach!

“ Not so expensive”£190 for a smoke test and sensor. £100 for the test and £90 for the sensor (£20) and fitting. I am still smarting. Plus they had it in the garage for nearly 3 days. They see the Merc badge and triple the price.

It could have been worse and the car is back on the road…..

Thanks for the advice, like millions of other Mercedes owners / mechanics I will take the chance.
