mercedes e55 amg
i have a 97 e55 amg, it is stuck in park and i cannot release it i have pressed the brake etc etc tried with just ign on and with engine running but it just wont release is there a safety release somewhere or is there anything i can do

there a release hole near the gear lever numerals - you poke in a thin screwdriver and ease the gear lever out of Park. Poss needs a trip to the dealer - happend to me - turned out to be gear box control module in my case - not cheap

Some early 55amgs have release by gearshift small plug at side of gearshift prise out and insert ie.pen biro tube or simular press and move shifter have foot on brake engine running

Bensdad welcome to forum:bannana::bannana::bannana:

Yes it is the control module, very common on the W220,£500-£600 thats what it was on my old S-Class. That's when they had Service + warranty, thak goodness.

Can you start the car

If so you can rule out the EIS

If you need to move it as said in other posts push the button on the Side of box

Inside the car you will have to remove switch panel for windows ect

Keep us posted

If you cannot start the engine and you are stuck in park, you might need a new gear lever assembly. I had the same problem - the part alone is quite expensive at c£550. From memory it took 2-3hours to fit.

No power - unable to turn key

My 2004 C270 is stuck in park as I have no power. I have tried power pack and trickle charge but still nothing. Any ideas welcomed?

Occasionally the small fan seizes which is in the bottom of the control unit box on the N/S.
If it seizes the car will start but cannot move out of park as some sort of safety.

By simply unplugging this 2 pin connector you can get the car going...

Happened on 2 of our 210's in the past.

So many options, could be any of the above.

Doubt it's control unit, it won't be the selector (tip tronic are the only ones prone to failure) my guess is brake light switch as a favourite and then eis

After a week in the garage being tested between jobs I have been told the auxiliary heater was faulty and draining 15A from the battery. I am also told this is not a standard fit to all Merc diesels and is not essential equipment but will cost a further £700 to replace! I have chosen to not have it replaced just yet. Any comments on how essential the auxiliary heater is?

Seeing as you can turn it off from the settings in your instrument cluster, no, its not that important. It helps to get the temperature up to optimum so that the engine can be most efficient on burning fuel. I've seen it disconnected on a couple of cars now.
