i run 3 taxis in the centre of york and today i received a letter from york city council telling me that because of the age of my vehicles they would not meet york new standard for emissions as of june 2007 all vehicles must be euro 1 as of june 2008 they must be euro 2 and as of june 2009 they must be euro 3 what were these standards and do any of my merc e 300 diesels meet this standard one car is a w124 e 300 diesel 1995 the other 2 are 1996 w210 e 300 diesels they all have cats fitted any help would be appreciated
 
Im not sure of what W124's pump out, but HERE is a chart of what is needed for each stage of the emissions.
 
thanks for the information i will now try and find exactly what emissions my cars put out

ask them about there school busses :D and other council vehicles
 
i know its ludicrous we have tour buses spewing black smoke out all day these buses are the old london type buses maybe 25 years old but they arent governed by the council like our hackney carriages are we have to be tested twice a year by the council this test is stricter than an mot
 
tell them you switched to bio diesel ....... much cleaner- better for the enviroment...... easy ...... then ask them when they are doing the same

How dare they do this. What will happen to vintage cars? If it is legal nationally, it is ludicrous to have individual towns setting different standards. How will anyone know driving in from outside the area? Is it worth asking the AA or RAC if they will take this up, or writing to What Car Autocar, Top Gear or whatever?
 
Look up the standards and talk to VOSA.
I'm sure that MB diesel of that vintage with cats will all be Euro II and probably Euro III anyway.
 
Euro II was introduced in 1995 and Euro III not until 1999. Then EuroIV came in 2005. See this link for details and for the standards required: -

This is what they claim: -

I don't think it's a case of what the cars actually produce, rather what emissions (if any) are listed on the V5.

If none are listed (as is the case with some older cars), I think automatically it cannot pass a standard requiring X.

It's not on the V5 but is on the Certificate of conformity. For a 300TD the category is EuroIII before the 1999 enforcement.
I suspect the 300 atmo with cat is as well, in fact I'm sure any diesel with an oxydisation cat will be EuroIII, that was the major change from II to III.
