advice please.

I have a used C class coupe that i purchased 3 months ago from a main dealer. The car now requires a B1 service and they are charging £585. Will the one year warrenty be void if i took the car to an independant merc specialist or do i have no choice but to go back to the main dealer.

Thanks

You need to double check the terms of your warranty and if in doubt speak to the warranty provider. Terms & Conditions change so don’t rely on what other people say, co firm with your warranty provider.

Shop around different main dealers and the prices can vary considerably. I recently had a service done and the same service - with identical time/distance related additional items - cost between £513 and £985 at different main dealers.

You could also find that a service care plan may be a good option depending upon what exactly is due on this and the subsequent service.

it’s the Mercedes approved warranty so it looks like I will have to go back to the main dealer

Even if someone else has the same warranty the T&Cs could have changed. I would check with the warranty provider - not the dealer - as they’re the ones who know, and are impartial to where the service is comoleted.

PS The warranty is an insurance product provided by a division of Allianz.

It’s a shame the main dealer couldn’t be bothered to do the service before you bought the car. That’s too much to ask I suppose.

If I remember right Approved Used cars have to have more than 3 months to go before a service is due, although I can’t remember whether that’s 3 calendar months, 12 weeks, 90 days, etc.

It’s worth double checking if you think you may be just inside that window. That said it’s best to check when the next service is due and if you want it FOC or discounted then ask before agreeing a deal.

I have the same warranty from Allianz via MB, phoned them last week and they said no issue as long as it's a VAT registered garage using MB parts.

I am taking my AMG to MBS in three weeks time as a result
