Hi
i dont now if anyone can help me here.
i have a mb 420 sel 1990.i am the second owmer of this car.
the car has covered 98,000 miles from new with full mb history to date.

the problem is, the front of the vehicle is high up. the back is low.
when i put my fingers in the front wheel arch there is too much gap.

i changed all shocks and all springs, all new and was told to put stage one rubbers on the front shocks.it lowered the front just by fractions.the nose of the car was still too high.

any suggestions pls.

someone told me that the lower wishbone bushes could have seized up that they are ment to be flexible that thats why the front my be high up.
those this make any sense.the other thing is i get this light tappet noise when the car is idling.understand there is an oil treatment that can completely shut this noise up.

lastly,i cant get more than 100 mph with this car on the motor way.i have changed all ht leads, plugs dist cap and rotor, injectors, full service.for a 4.2 the takeoff is not impressive for a v8.the engine is shaking slightly when idling.understand this engine shouldnt do that when runing correctly.

cheers
howard:confused:

Having owned one for these in the past, which was sold at 130K miles, I can tell you one thing for sure that these cars are torque monsters. The 4.2 is also one of the most reliable engines ever produced by Mercedes which was also confirmed by a couple of indis that I used to visit. The injectors that you replaced, were they gold in color or silver? The gold ones are the correct ones. There is also a fuel strainer up front on the fuel distributor feed line, in addition to the main fuel filter in the back. Were both of these changed? My car, even at such high mileage had absolutely no tappet noise at all so you might want to have those checked and adjusted because lack of power may be due to incorrect valve adjustment. I believe this engine uses ball adjusters and knuckles for valve clearance adjustments which may have gotten worn out, although I doubt it but definately worth checking. The only known problem on these engines is the replacement of valve seals above 100K miles since they cause blue smoke on cold starts. Dealers warrant removal of the head however, one of my indis did it without removing the head which shows that it can be done.

Good Luck
