Might be a merc owner tomorrow (I AM!)

Hello all, looking at a 1993 280TE tomorrow, 115k with full MB history and only 2 owners from new. I'm really hoping it's a good un as I have wanted one of these for a while but somehow have always ended up buying something else

Any pointers on specific things to look out for would be appreciated

:)

try and take somebody along who knows these estates.

Failing that check the rear suspension works properly and doesn't leak - it's self levelling and can be expensive to fix. Make sure the soft closing on the rear door works as well - again expensive to put right.

All electrics and toys should work - if they don't find out why.

Front suspension check for any play in the steering or knocks and clunks

Check the engine for leaks, oil in the coolant.

Normal gear shifts should be smooth and almost undetectable yet the kickdown should really make the car go.

Check the heater works properly with both sides functioning independently

There are loads of things to look for but if it drives nicely and has been well looked after buy it - you can always sort out minor niggles later

Good luck

Andy

Thanks for the advice, I saw it, liked it, bought it! :D

It's very clean, has a huge pile of MB invoices from new, and drives really nicely.

The autobox is lovely, it's a five speeder (which I wasn't expecting) and seems well matched to the engine.

On the downside the central locking is not working, last service invoice states "New PSE pump required" so I'm going to get that done ASAP.

Will get pics up soon!

Central locking is vacuum controlled, might be worth checking for dislodged pipes before ordering a new pump......

Here she is :)

What a lovely example. Well done :)

Thanks for the kind words gents, I'm pretty amazed by the condition, I think these two photos sum it up.

I suppose I'd better join the club now :bannana:
