Hi,

My wife managed to rip a side mirror off from our W163  on a bush and it's snapped the metal retaining clip. Luckily there's absolutely no other damage to body or mirror cover or glass . Two things; any one know if these clips are available to purchase seperately? Next obvious question, how does the clip go together?

Help please!

Matt

The clip is the mirror frame and can't be acquired seperately.

Looks like wifey won't be getting any new dresses or shoes for quite some time..

Hi,

The clip seems detachable and sits in the frame as you suggest then the cover pops over the top of the frame and the clip 'clicks' the mirror cover into place. Worst case, I'll make a new one but I'd have thought looking at way these covers pop on/off, this is quite a common problem. I'll have a word with the local MB dealership and body shop. Maybe I can get lucky and get one of a broken unit?

I'll drop a photo in tomorrow if I don't get any luck.

Thanks,

Matt

so i have the same issue (i think from your description), i was at the MB dealer parts department yesterday to order some stuff and i asked them about it, he had a good look at the mirror but in the end he said i would have to buy a whole new mirror unit (about £240) at which point i thought i make my own, can't believe they don't sell those clips, this must happen quite often (btw in my case it was not my wife who did it but me reversing back in the garage while in a hurry

Yep, going to make my own too from a strip of spring steel after being told the same. I haven't worked out yet how to get the other mirror cover off to get a look at what the clip is supposed to actually look like when not bent, broken and mangled. Anyone got any good techniques on how to disengage the covers? Is it easier to pull the mirror glass off first then unclip through the front, or go in from the back with the mirror folded?

I've also put a question to WingMirrorMan since they seem to supply everything to do with mirrors and I've purchased from them in the past.
